What is a class action lawsuit?
A class action allows one or more people to bring a case on behalf of an entire group who experienced the same or similar issues. The court decided that the plaintiffs can represent the whole group.
What was the outcome of the lawsuit?
The lawsuit was resolved after the parties reached four different settlement agreements. A judge gave final approval of the fourth and final settlement on September 4, 2026. Generally, the settlements provided for injunctive relief for repairs to the property, permanent debt relief, and the creation of several common funds, which will be distributed to pay expenses, class members and attorneys.
Am I part of the class action?
There are multiple Stonegate Meadows settlements covering different time periods and defendants. Your eligibility may depend on when you lived at Stonegate Meadows and other information.
You are automatically considered class member of the fourth and final settlement if you signed a lease to live at Stonegate Meadows Apartments between December 1, 2019 through May 5, 2026. Because this is a class action, the settlement covers all class members, you do not have to have been an individual plaintiff to benefit from the settlement.
Who distributes the settlement funds?
The settlement funds are distributed by a third-party Settlement Administrator, RG/2 Claims Administrator. RG/2 Claims Administrator was not a party to the lawsuit and is not a law firm.
How many settlements are there?
Four separate settlements were approved through this lawsuit. Settlements with Young Management Corporation (opens in a new tab), Yarco Company (opens in a new tab), and Stonegate Meadows LP and Eagle Point Management (opens in a new tab) were approved on November 26, 2025. A settlement with Elite Management (opens in a new tab) was approved on September 4, 2026.
The fourth and final settlement is the only settlement still updating information to disburse checks.
When will I receive my payment from the “common fund” for the final class action settlement?”
The Settlement Administrator will distribute the first round of payments to class members by or before November 13, 2026, via checks mailed directly to class members. A second check will be issued to each class member who cashed their original check, if any settlement funds remain.
Who receives the settlement check, and what if more than one adult lives in my household?
Only one settlement check will be issued per household, regardless of how many adults or class members live in the unit or the number of individuals on the lease.
What should I do if I continue to have habitability issues, like pests or leaks in my unit?
You must report any habitability issues to Stonegate by submitting a work order through the designated maintenance portal system. After submitting a work order, Stonegate has agreed that issues affecting habitability should be fixed within a reasonable time.
If Stonegate is not responsive to your work order request, report the issue using steps 1-3:
- Report the issue in writing to the management office immediately and keep a copy;
- Take photographs or video of the condition and date your photos;
- Contact The Heartland Center for Jobs and Freedom to report issues using this link (opens in a new tab).
Do not allow repairs to be 'closed out' in the work order portal as complete if the work has not actually been done.
What if a rent charge that I do not recognize or another problem?
Report any issues you have in your home in writing immediately. Do not wait and do not rely on a verbal conversation with management. Put your concern in writing, like a letter, email, or text, to the management office, and use this link to report your issue (opens in a new tab) via Jotform to Heartland Center for Jobs and Freedom. Keeping a written record protects your rights.
